This is a "patterns of change and continuity over time" essay, so you'll need to address how things changed or didn't change because of the efforts of the the laboring-classes. Remember to both describe their lives, describe their attempts and evaluate the level of success/change they achieved. Also, you must address the role/positions of big business and the federal government in their lives.
Consider your talking points as you look over the documents: How can you "group" the documents so that they represent your body paragraphs? This will give you your talking points for your thesis and your topic sentences, as well.
Do NOT refer to the documents as "Document A" when you are writing. Instead, refer to them by document type (painting, Address to Congress), reference the author, reference the title, etc.
The ACE strategy works for essays, too.
Answer the prompt using your evidence (talking points) which may include repeating words from the prompt or thesis = topic sentence
Cite/describe the idea you are referencing from the document (this might be paraphrasing),
Explain how it connects to your thesis/argument. If you are also HAPPY analyzing, add it in before the E part.
Rubric:
must analyze 6 out of the 7 documents
must HAPPY analyze (also called extended analysis in the "College Board" world) at least 4 out of the 7
must include 1 outside example NOT mentioned in the documents
7 points:
thesis 1 point,
contextualization, 1 point
strong/complex argument 1 point (hallelujah point),
6 documents used correctly 1 point
4 HAPP analysis, must be correct, 1 point
Evidence beyond the documents, 1 strong example, 1 point
